John Southall

After graduating from Birmingham University with an MSc in Environmental Health, John worked at Coventry City Council as a Health and Safety Inspector. During this time he completed a post graduate diploma in occupational health, safety and environment and completed a professional trainer certificate.

In 2003 he left Coventry City Council and started working on a self – employed basis on behalf of the Federation of Tour Operators conducting health and safety and fire audits of hotels around the world, including Thomas Cook Signature hotels in India, First Choice ski resorts in the French Alps and Virgin hotels in the Caribbean.

During this time he co-founded ‘Southalls’ and the rest is history!

Southalls is now a high growth business with a fantastic team of consultants, over 550 clients both in the UK and internationally and with consultancy and software services uniquely endorsed by the ex CEO of IOSH. With Safety Cloud used by over 50,000 employees and translated into various languages for use worldwide, HR Cloud was then also developed.

John has worked as a lecturer on the MSc in Environmental Health at Birmingham University and public speaker at many events. He is a Chartered member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (MCIEH).

He has completed the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Business programme which has inspired him further to develop the Company into one of the leading consultancy and software providers in the sector.

John has appeared on Real Story with Fiona Bruce and BBC Newsround discussing food safety matters.

John is a serial hobbyist with a wardrobe to match – golf, squash, fishing, triathlons, cycling and swimming (both indoors, lake and sea!). With the arrival of children an earlier hobby of kite buggying came to an end but now is the desire to swim across the Solent to the Isle of Wight! With strong and complex currents and a busy shipping lane to cross a risk assessment will be required!
