Tom graduated from Birmingham University with a BSc in Biosciences before joining The Police Force. With 16 years’ service he has built an invaluable array of ‘on the street’ and management experience to become an expert at delivering authoritative yet friendly and efficient service to get a job done ‘live and right’ in an environment demanding the highest standards and transparent accountability from end to end. In his final role as a Police Contact Management Centre Sergeant, Tom led two control room teams comprised of police and civilian staff collectively responsible for the real-time policing of major areas of the Midlands. His individual responsibilities included management of all incidents; making dynamic risk assessment, situational triage, and critical incident management decisions for on-going events, in addition to the leadership of the control team and managerial supervision of policy compliance and target performance.
While on the force Tom mentored and trained innumerable staff and oversaw departmental, logistical, regulatory and cultural changes within the police. It’s this passion for development, communication and assistance in simplifying the complex which Tom fulfils in his role as Client Relationship Manager at Southalls. Joining as a full member of the team in early 2016, he hit the ground running having worked for Southalls in a part-time role since 2012 during which he had been instrumental in assisting clients with Safety Cloud with his signature warm, easy-going yet efficient manner.
Tom is highly tech-savvy, a computer hobbiest and serious photographer (responsible for the teams’ headshots here, with the exception of his own (thanks, John)). Although settled in The Midlands for 20 years, he enjoys returning to The Lake District where he grew up and retains strong family ties and walking the dog around the lakes with his wife.
